On February 10, 2025, the leadership of ESDEV Foundation Africa held a strategic meeting with the Director-General and team of the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission (GAEC) to discuss collaborative efforts in commemorating the 2025 International Year of Quantum Science and Technology (IYQ2025) in Ghana. This engagement marks a significant step in ensuring Ghana and Africa’s active participation in the global quantum science revolution, particularly through the UNESCO Africa Agenda-Setting Programme, which will be organized under the auspices of the 2025 Africa Regional Conference and Exhibition on Education and Skills Development (ARC-EDS).
The discussions also explored opportunities to integrate quantum science into STEM education and workforce development through ARC-EDS 2025. This flagship event will serve as a platform to engage educators, researchers, policymakers, and industry leaders in shaping the future of quantum science education and its practical applications in economic growth and technological innovation.
Both institutions reaffirmed their commitment to advancing STEM education and research, with a shared vision to institutionalize the Allotey Lecture Series – a platform dedicated to honoring the legacy of Prof. Francis Allotey while promoting groundbreaking innovations in quantum science and technology. The meeting underscored the critical role of fostering a knowledge-driven economy and positioning Ghana as a hub for scientific excellence in Africa. We extend our sincere appreciation to GAEC’s leadership for their unwavering support and look forward to a transformative collaboration in making IYQ2025 a landmark celebration for Ghana and Africa.
